Worst Day Ever

As with so many things these days, I was wrong.  This afternoon I was informed that my position was being eliminated and after 8 years of service I was unceremoniously shown the door.

This has been a pretty bad month for me.  My family has moved in with another man, and now I find myself, not only alone in my house, but now I have no job.  I work in a pretty specialized field and while there are some improvement, the job market still sucks.

T is pushing hard for me to attend Physician Assistant school.  It's a good idea, and let's face it, with that, I would never have to worry about finding a job again for the rest of my life.  On the other hand, it will require about 3 and a half years of school.  It would be very difficult for me to hold a job and go to school at the same time.  So while I agree it's a good investment, I am not sure how I will support myself and the kids during that time.

Right now I can't ever think.  I am so stressed out.  The reality of my unemployed status is starting to hit me and it is so fucking overwhelming.  I just don't know what to do.

I'm going to go to bed and maybe I will wake up from this nightmare.

Jim, I am really sorry to hear that. It is a shocking news which comes so fast and unexpected. On the other hand, going to physican assistant school is a good choice, which needs money, hard study (only my guess) but has a good return.

I hope that you are not too stressed. My life also sucks!

Life changes all the time; we just have to face it head on. This is no time to be depressed. I absolutely know you can do it. Going to PA school is a very good choice. With all the options we discussed tonight, you can do it...difficult but possible. You know I've always been right, so, this time, listen to me. I am proud of you and love you very much. There's a position at my clinic waiting for you!

Terribly sorry to hear, the US economy continues to struggle and sadly folks are taking the hit. I feel your pain.

Hang in there, let us know how you're getting on.

Man, that sucks. On the other hand when you do start a new job you can come out straight away.
We're all behind you here. Hugs.

I'm so sorry to hear this... there's just too much happening to you all at once. T always offers such sensible advice; perhaps you should consider his suggestion.

Knock Knock!! Opportunity here.

One door closes another one opens. But sometimes we need a kick in the groin to make us move to the next stage. So rub your 'nads, get up and move on.

Like others said, seriously consider T's advice, but listen to your heart/gut. I like the comment about being freed to be yourself in your new profession. No more excuse to hide.

I wish someone would kick me. Best of luck in whatever you decide to do. You've made great progress in the past year. Keep going.

Sorry to hear it guy.... I was shown the door after over 15 years of being a dedicated employee... You can do it. Make a new start. I did. This economy is changing society, and we must reach up and grab the challenge....

Hang in there. I'm glad you have a good friend in T.

Okay, a kick is one thing, but a kick in the groin wasn’t needed. This is changing your whole life with a vengeance. No wonder it feels overwhelming. And the job thing couldn’t come at a worse time. I have faith in you though. You are a hard worker and you have kids to take care of. I know you’ll find your way through this. Physician’s assistant is only a good idea if you have any inclination that way. My prayers are with you. ciel

Sorry to hear this. The job market is improving and you may be surprised how quickly you find a job.

Take a few days off. Relax. Take a deep breath. Then make your job search plan.

Changing careers is a big decision. Make sure it's something you will really enjoy. What if sausage maker paid well? Would you do that?

Sausage making could be fun... ;)
A lot of people seek jobs that they think they would enjoy. How often does that happen? How many of them can say that they enjoy them after all the stress they seem to get? Job security should be the first priority. If you have to start a new career, the wisest thing is to get into something that you won't have to worry about being fired at age 50 and have no one hiring you again. I know some people who used to brag about how much they loved their jobs. Then, when they were fired in their late forties and early fifties, all they do is whine. When you are no longer in your twenties, in my opinion, you should get out of the dreaming mode and step into the reality. Jim, you are a very caring person, I know you will love working as a PA, despite the stress that goes with it.
